Picture of Dead Man's Penny

This Medallion, (it was called a Memorial Plaque better known now as a ‘Dead Man’s Penny”) together with a letter of condolence from King George V was received by the bereaved family of L/Cpl. William Smith of the 1st Battalion South Wales Borderers in 1914, (as all other bereaved families did). ‘One of the ‘forty heroes of the village’, his grandchildren still live in Hirwaun.
